Capable of delivering lux levels far surpasing that of even mercury vapour this product is best suited for larger reptiles that love high light intensity (Bearded Dragon, iguana, Monitor, Tortoise etc). Unlike the self ballasted mercury vapour bulbs the metal halide bulbs are incapable of starting without a correct wattage external ballast, this is due to the high amount of electrical current that is required to ignit the metal halide chemical and begin the light burning process.
